Turn Your Life Around With Mindfulness

December 11th, 2009

Mindfulness is an increasingly popular concept that is taking hold in the self-help and medical worlds. There is a great deal of interest in mindfulness practice among western clinical psychologists and psychiatrists as a natural way to reduce stress, anxiety, and chronic pain.

Mindfulness is awareness of one’s current thoughts, actions or motivations. It has roots in Buddhism, but the modern interpretation of mindfulness is a secular one that is not connected to any religion.

Mindfulness is the ability to intentionally create a “present moment” awareness without applying our personal filters or lenses of judgment to a situation.

We may do damage to our personal or business relationships when we’re quick to interpret events and interaction with others with an emotional response. The goal of mindfulness is to be open and non-judgmental about what’s happening externally as well as any emotions that are arising internally at the present moment.

When we move our awareness from thoughts about the future or past into the present moment, we are practicing mindfulness. The more frequently we can live in the present, the more peace we find in our inner and outer realities.

Our internal peace comes from the ability to notice and then quiet the self-talk or chatter going on in our mind. Once we become aware and tune into our mind chatter, it can be shocking to realize how much judgment and commentary is being produced there!

By the simple act of noticing the mind chatter, we have the ability to analyze it or stop it. We can observe the thoughts without judging them or ourselves for having them.

Thoughts are just that. They may not have any connection to reality or intent. If we understand that thoughts can be released, we can let go of the ones that are not positive, productive, or truthful.

Problems arise in our inner and outer realities when we get trapped by negative or untruthful self-talk. This happens when we react to our mind’s commentary without analyzing it first. Many of our thoughts may not be truthful or helpful to us in any way.

To be present in the moment, we should also be a witness to the positive and beautiful thoughts and sensations we experience. We can bring awareness to our breath, to the cool wind, to the warm water we bathe in, or to the complex taste of the food we eat.

When we approach our thoughts and emotions with curiosity as they come and go, we take control of our mind, instead of letting our mind take control of us.

Understand Manifestation: the Step-by-step Process Revealed

December 10th, 2009

Manifesting results we want in our lives–like more wealth, better health, happier relationships, etc.–can happen in two different ways.

(1) We can simply do nothing, wait, and hope that they arrive by pure happenstance, or

(2) we can be diligent each and every day to put effort into bringing the results we want closer to us.

I don’t know about you, but I’m setting up my tent in the second camp! This is because I know that manifestation is not a mystery. Manifesting our desires, which begin as fuzzy thoughts, into our everyday reality is a process we can master.

Knowledge, by itself, produces nothing. It’s the combination of knowledge, intent, desire, and action that really starts to make things happen.

It’s like having knowledge about how to grow a garden. If you want big, healthy vegetables, you certainly must have gardening knowledge. But only when you see yourself picking ripe fresh tomatoes and enjoying them so much, will the desire move you.

The desire to fulfill your vision takes you straight to the actions of buying, planting, and watering the seeds. Once this process is complete, the vegetable garden can become a reality.

There is a technique available right now for manifesting our dream life. Here’s the step-by-step process revealed for you:

1.         Determine the Ideal

Ask yourself, “in the ideal world, what would be different about my current situation” or “if I could have absolutely any outcome I wanted for this particular problem, what would that look like”. Be very specific and don’t get bogged down with you think may not be possible. Brainstorm at least 3 different answers. If you catch that little voice in the back of your head saying, “no, that’s not possible”, you must ignore it. Choose your favorite ideal.

2.         Virtual-ize the Ideal

Pretend the ideal has occurred. Close you eyes and imagine that it’s about to happen, that it does happen, and that it already happened. Feel grateful that the ideal did happen, and understand how it changes your life.

Of course you know that your ideal scenario did not happen in your “real” life, but that it is working in your “virtual” life. When you can exist in both your “real” life and your “virtual” life simultaneously, you are making progress. The more consistently you can exist with one foot in both worlds, the closer they will move toward each other.

3.         Realize the Ideal

As your “virtual” life gets very close to your “real” life, you will feel it so powerfully that you have no choice but to speak about it as truth. You will have no choice but to take actions toward your “virtual” life that begin to place it in your reality. You start to look forward to it so much that the joy of having your “virtual” life soaks through you.

4.         Manifest the Ideal

This is the point at which your “virtual” and “real” lives merge completely.

The real trick to Step #2, Virtual-ize the Ideal, is to spend time focusing on exactly what you want. Many people are so frustrated and upset about not having what they want, that they focus on their lack. This, of course, creates the complete opposite result that we want.

There are some powerful visualization tools that can be used to imprint your “virtual” life into your subconscious. This will speed up the time it takes to move into Step #3 and to accomplish Step #4.

So be sure to catch your mind sneaking off to think about the wrong things, and pull it back into concentration on the right things. For instance, always believe:

•           that you have a right to have what you want

•           that you are personally worthy of anything you want

•           that the world has plenty of whatever you want to go around

•           that there is a higher purpose in having what you want

•           that having what you want is attainable

•           that you are already grateful for your future abundance

•           that negative thoughts never serve you

Master the 4-step manifestation process, keep your thoughts focused on what is positive and productive, and you’ll be surprised how quickly you can manifest your dream life.

How to Manage Your Thoughts – Tips to Manifest Success

December 9th, 2009

The economic analysts are “living large” right now. Everyone is looking to them to project what’s going to happen to interest rates, the price of gas, the housing market, the stock market, shall I go further?

I’ve been around numbers all my life and am a fair to good analyst. If you gave me enough time on a computer, without my 3 and 5 year old daughters begging to see Hannah Montana, even I could make the numbers tell you wide variety of predictions that we’ve been hearing lately:

So what I conclude from the analysts is not their specific predictions, but an understanding of the message within their message…

We cannot be certain about where the economy or the universe in general is headed.Nor do we have control over what happens in the economy or the universe.

Instead of focusing on those things that are beyond my control, I choose to look at the things that are within my control.

Many a word has been written about recognizing and quieting negative thoughts. Less is said about the positive thoughts that come into our consciousness. Whether negative or positive, I believe it’s a myth that we can control our thoughts.

Instead, I believe that what we do with our thoughts, once they arrive in our mind, is well within our control. How we manage our thoughts dictates what happens in our lives and how we fit with the universe. This is certainly a critical component to the life that we are manifesting for ourselves.

I have a very dear friend that has helped me grow in all aspects of my life. His simple way of thinking about how to deal with thoughts can benefit each of us.  He believes that thoughts are like fire, and the tools that he has to manage these thoughts are a can of water and a can of gas.

He puts the water to the negative thoughts as they arise, dousing them immediately. But just as importantly, he puts the gas to the positive thoughts when they show up to help them multiply.

How can we manifest more good results in our lives?  Praise yourself for your positive thoughts. Let them reside in your mind. Feed them fuel until they spawn new positive thoughts.

Make sure you’ve got plenty of gas, even if the price goes to double digits! Your investment in yourself will pay handsomely in the future.

What Medicine Knows About Manifesting

December 9th, 2009

A placebo is Latin for I will please. It’s defined by Wikipedia as “a substance or procedure which a patient accepts as a medicine or therapy but which has no specific therapeutic activity for the condition. Any effect is thought to be based on the power of suggestion”.

The placebo effect is when, after a treatment, a patient’s symptoms become better or worse due to their expectation or belief that the treatment would work. The placebo effect occurs when a patient is treated in conjunction with the suggestion from an authority figure or from acquired information that the treatment will aid in healing and the patient’s condition improves. This effect has been known since the early 20th century”.

The word nocebo is Latin for I will harm. The nocebo effect is defined by Wikipedia as, “(occurring when) a patient who disbelieves in a treatment may experience a worsening of symptoms. This effect … can be measured in the same way as the placebo effect, e.g., when members of a control group receiving an inert substance report a worsening of symptoms”.

So why discuss medicine in an article about manifesting your desires?  I would encourage all readers to be mindful of what medicine has known since the early 20th century!

Medical science has demonstrated that what we believe has a massive impact on what happens in our bodies. If we believe that good things will come to us, they will show up.  If we believe the opposite, then undesirable things manifest in our lives.

Just as we protect against putting toxic substances into our bodies, we should also protect against any toxins entering our minds. This would be any of the many things that are able to negatively impact our belief system.

I experienced a downright attack on my own belief system earlier this week. I walked into the bank to make a deposit and stepped into line. One of the major news channels (possibly the worst attack on our belief systems), playing on a monitor over the teller, was detailing the decline of our housing market.

One of the ways that I generate revenue is by flipping houses; so I took the bait. I listened to every painful detail about how many people are being affected, how bad the market has been, and that the outlook for housing is very dismal.

After making the deposit I realized that I was experiencing doubt about a house I was to purchase later that day. I called a friend to discuss my fears. He asked, “how many houses have you sold in this down market?” I replied, “I’ve sold six in the last year.”  He responded, “were they profitable?” Almost embarrassed, I said, “of course they were.”

My belief system had just been set back on the right track. If we are not diligent about taking in information that serves us, we will absorb information that harms us. Is the information you are feeding your brain a placebo or a nocebo?

Is Selfishness Healthy?

December 8th, 2009

Wouldn’t you agree that we are all selfish to some degree? Many equate selfishness with self-preservation. But those who are seeking a higher spiritual existence or improved emotional health should analyze selfishness and its root causes carefully. When we are concerned primarily with our own interests and benefits regardless of others, we are being selfish. Selfishness means that we serve our own pleasure regardless of how our actions affect others. The opposite of selfishness is altruism, which is the self-less concern for the welfare of others.A selfish person doesn’t have room in their thoughts or considerations for others. They are completely self-absorbed. To be self-absorbed is to have tunnel vision on yourself and your own personal needs. In short, a selfish person’s entire world is completely about themselves. They don’t have the ability to imagine the thoughts and feelings of others. They have little or no ability to empathize.A selfish person feels overly entitled to have their idea of a “perfect” life. They crave attention and have a need to be seen and heard more than anyone else. They become oblivious to what others need or say. Selfish people are like children in that they have not yet learned to balance giving with taking. They view others only as a means to get what they want. And they demonstrate drastic mood swings related to whether they get their way or not. There’s elation when they “win” and despair and arrogance when their demands are not met.Selfish people become threatened when attention is paid to others. They have difficulty letting other people win, get accolades, or be admired. They can not listen to someone’s opinions, stories, or advice without turning it back to themselves. They are not truly sincere when they wish someone else success. Selfish people have a need for control and are not willing to reach compromises with others. When they need something they’re willing to trample over others to make sure they get it. Cutting in line, storming into a room unannounced, or having a temper tantrum are a few of the many types of selfish behaviors one can exhibit.Let’s be clear about what selfishness is not. It’s not self-promotion, self-respect, self-admiration, self-esteem, or self-love. These terms describe behavior that most of us consider healthy, productive, and not harmful to others. Why are selfish people selfish? The answer is that they feel deprived of something. This deprivation may exist in either their consciousness or in their subconscious mind. They believe that they got “the wrong end of the stick” and now someone (or everyone) owes them payback. There is a sense of entitlement and expectation that justifies their bad behavior. The feeling of deprivation drives the selfish to behave in ways that they believe will insure the end of deprivation. To others, their behavior could be described as arrogance. The roots of selfishness usually come from unhealthy or negative childhood experiences that shape our thought patterns. For example, children of divorced parents can become selfish because they find the love of a missing parent only through the gifts that they receive from them. So they make demands of the parent to substitute for the parent’s time and attention. The child may discover that their demands are met, and so they learn that they can easily manipulate the parent.Do you recognize some or many of the characteristics of selfishness in yourself? If so, you have accomplished a very important first step with that simple recognition. Each of us must take responsibility for our inner motivations and external behaviors. We are living a healthy and full life only when we are able to consider what’s truly best for others, instead of how others can be of benefit to us.How would you like to manifest your ideal life by tapping the power of YOUR subconscious mind? The New Rules of Wealth Manifestation

December 7th, 2009

There’s a lot of information, suggestions, and tips available for successfully manifesting the wealth that you want to have in your life. There are too many books, articles, blog posts, movies, audio programs, podcasts, radio shows, etc. to name that focus on money manifestation.

Why is the topic of wealth manifestation so darn popular? Could it be that as humans, we are genetically programmed to always be seeking our financial “highest and best use”? This is actually a real estate term that refers to what will generate the highest net monetary return to a property owner over a period of time. For some properties, “highest and best use” could be a 20 story apartment building that generates lots of rental income. For other properties it could be a subdivision comprised of 100 small lots. These types of options may be extremely profitable for the property owner; but what if he or she simply wants to build a single home to live in and enjoy the surroundings and views offered there? Our lives are similar in that we have to balance our personal “highest and best use”, with what we truly desire. Many of us are capable of working 80 hours a week at one, two, or three jobs to create more disposable income. This has become the cultural norm for many Americans. But whether this suits our ultimate life purpose and deepest desires must be carefully analyzed. We all need money to survive and I would argue that we all need money to thrive. Money is a solution and a tool to carry us through our unique life journey. But the new rules of wealth manifestation require that we become much more introspective about why we want wealth. I know many people who mistakenly believe that becoming super-wealthy would solve all their problems. One in particular has said to me about a friend who retired early after selling a company for many millions, “look at him, he doesn’t have a care in the world”. If we think that wealth will bring us more peace, freedom from all worry, great health, and perfect relationships, we’re going to be sorely disappointed! Any wealthy person, who has reached a high level of self-development, will tell you that money gives you the opportunity to move your focus away from the mundane. What I mean is that when you don’t have to spend precious mental energy worrying about how to get food or pay for the roof over your head, you can focus on higher purposes. Most importantly, having money gives you the chance to make a difference in other people’s lives. So getting clear on what money will and will not do for you is important. I realize that this can be a difficult exercise if your point-of-view is and has always been one of lack. The new rules of wealth manifestation indicate that you must concentrate your energies on a higher purpose in order to attract riches into your life. Discover how your talents and passions can be used to solve a problem for others. Think about what you already do well that could add value to what other successful people are doing well.Lack of money equals a lack of problem-solving. When you find a way to serve others and fulfill their needs, you can’t help but reap the rewards. How would you like to manifest your ideal life by tapping the power of YOUR subconscious mind? Why Raise Your Consciousness?

December 6th, 2009

Many of us want to raise our level of consciousness. Have you ever thought about the reasons why seekers of a higher consciousness are seeking it?What’s the point or the ultimate goal that we hope to achieve from becoming more self-aware? Is it to make more money, get a better job, to improve our moods?First, let’s identify a major difference between people I consider to be unconscious and conscious. Those who are unable to be a witness to their own thoughts and feelings act unconsciously. They respond to their emotions only by instinct. They become trapped in the world of their own thoughts and responses. They are living exclusively “in their head”.Those who act purely from emotion, without even realizing or acknowledging that emotion, are living a somewhat primal life. This is similar to the way an animal reacts in nature. When hungry, animals kill; when irritated, they lash out; when threatened, they fight, etc.For example, when an unconscious person gets angry, they yell at someone. They don’t challenge themselves to sit with the emotion and ask, “Why am I feeling this way? What’s really at the root of this emotion I am currently experiencing at this moment?”Getting to know ourselves and becoming more self-aware means doing some work. It means questioning ourselves about ways of thinking and acting that may be incredibly ingrained in our everyday life patterns. When we take responsibility for our emotions and happiness, we are living more consciously. When we take the opportunity and time to learn about ourselves, we become happier, and so do the people in our lives. We find that our time is spent more efficiently. Instead of creating drama and brooding over “issues”, we spend time on what truly matters. We get a great deal more accomplished, because we put more value on our time when living consciously. When we are conscious, we seek people and create situations that make us feel great. And in turn, we attract more like-minded people and situations that ultimately bring us good.I believe we should raise our consciousness foremost because we can. As human beings, we have been endowed with the ability to move above and beyond a primal emotional life. This doesn’t make us superior to beautiful plants and animals that cannot do this. We simply have a different genetic makeup. Our left brain thinking, labeling, blaming, questioning and judging that we experience can be our greatest asset or our greatest downfall. We can choose to “buy in” to all the mind chatter or to be a witness to it and question its truth. We should raise our consciousness to make ourselves and the people in our lives as happy as possible. Happiness is a different concept for each of us. For some it may come from the ability to quiet our thoughts and worries for the attainment of inner peace. Maybe it’s being present and living harmoniously on a daily basis with loved ones. Or perhaps happiness is manifesting dreams and beliefs about what we can personally accomplish. The great artist Salvador Dali said, “Have no fear of perfection, you’ll never reach it.” We may not be capable of perfection, but we owe it to ourselves, the people we love, and all of humanity to achieve our highest level of spiritual progress humanly possible. How would you like to manifest your ideal life by tapping the power of YOUR subconscious mind? Is There a Real Substitute for Meditation?

December 5th, 2009

I’ve come to understand the amazing benefits of meditation.

I’ve seen TV news specials about schools that have incorporated meditation into their curriculum, causing student’s grades and test scores to sky-rocket. I’ve also read about major corporations that believe in meditation. They feel it’s so important for good performance that they hire meditation consultants to teach their workers and even pay employees for time just to meditate.

I’ve asked my mentors what has really helped them move to the level of success they enjoy today. And you guessed it, meditation was their answer. Phil Helmuth, one of the world’s best poker players even attributes his success to the practice of meditation!

Because I know its value, I want to be able to practice meditation successfully too. I have tried for years, but to this day I am still NOT able to meditate.

I spent some time trying to troubleshoot my meditation problem. Does it go back to my formative years? Did I spend too much time playing video games as a kid?

I’m not sure of the cause, but the reality is that my mind is just too active to meditate. You see, my brain works like CNN. I have one reporter delivering the news and an additional ticker tape of information flowing across the bottom of the screen.

But despite my meditation failures, I am very fortunate to have been able to achieve incredible results in my life using an alternate technique.

This technique was actually a tremendous gift that I received from a close friend of mine. This is a friend who also had limited success meditating. He introduced me to an effective technology called brain wave entrainment.

Brain wave entrainment allows one to manipulate the brain state with very little practice and a rapid learning curve. It’s generally accomplished with audio soundtracks. The audio has been modified to manipulate the brain into the desired state. So if you can listen to audio, you can change your state of mind. And if you are hearing impaired this effect can also be created with specially designed strobe effects.

So why am I telling you about changing the brain state in an article on meditation? Because whether you realize it or not, the holy grail of meditation is the theta brain wave state!

When you are barely conscious (just before sleep or right after waking, for example) your brain waves are in the theta state. This is the middle ground between the conscious and the subconscious world, and also the goal of meditation.

When you get into the theta state, but can remain conscious, you have the ability to access and influence your subconscious mind. This is extremely important because the subconscious mind is much more powerful than the conscious mind.

So, getting yourself into the theta brain wave state on a regular basis in order to influence your subconscious mind is the secret to manifesting change and positive results in your life.

In fact, before we were able to measure brainwave patterns in the human brain with machines, people were using entrainment to induce a theta state. The chanting of monks, the drumbeats of Native Americans, and the hypnotic state created by a campfire are all examples of brain wave entrainment.

Success and Peak Performance: 8 Essential Tips

December 4th, 2009

To achieve peak performance you must insure that your mind and body are functioning at the highest level possible. This is how we define and achieve “success” as individuals. Our differences are many due to genetics, culture, personal experiences, and ambition. But we are similar in that we need care and nurturing for optimal mental, physical and emotional health. You can’t depend on others to provide the care that is so essential for your well-being—you must take responsibility to provide it to and for yourself. Find every way possible to incorporate the following tips to achieve your personal peak performance:1. Be Present & Listen -Practice presence and awareness in every moment of every day. The past and the future do not exist except as concepts and ideas in your mind. The only true reality is what you are experiencing right now in this precise moment. When you are present, you have the ability to listen clearly to others and to your own body, thoughts, and intuitions. Being present allows you to learn about yourself and the people, places, things, and ideas that make up the world. It’s the first step to making permanent improvements to your life.2. Seek Help When Needed -None of us were born with all the answers to every situation or problem. If you feel “too proud” or ashamed to seek help from others, you are letting your ego get in the way of personal development. This is dangerous and potentially very stressful. As difficult as it can be to trust others, you simply can’t do everything in life by yourself. Seeking assistance from others also opens up the opportunity to form new and unexpected relationships.3. Show Gratitude & Kindness -Successful people always remember to say “thank you” and to acknowledge those who help them. This leadership by example reinforces kind behavior as the expected standard. Giving genuine compliments makes you feel great and spreads joy to the receivers of your compliments. Express yourself honestly but remember that it’s always better to be kind than to be right.4. Take Time to Relax -Scheduling time to do something peaceful that you enjoy is critical for mental renewal. It could be sitting quietly with a magazine, taking a walk, going fishing, writing in a journal, etc. This time is a gift that you give yourself. Without some quiet time in your life you can’t listen to your inner thoughts and feelings. This space away from the crowd allows you to evaluate, meditate, and consider where you are heading in your life.5. Eat & Drink for Life -It is said we should “eat to live, not live to eat”. Food is essential to your health, but should not become an obsession. The food and beverages that go into your body affect you as powerfully as any drug. Consider drinking plenty of water and eating a variety of fruits, vegetables, and lean meats. Avoid excessive alcohol, sugars, and fats. When any particular food or beverage makes your system upset or causes you to be emotionally moody or agitated, avoid it.6. Exercise Regularly -Getting at least a half hour of exercise 4-6 times a week should be a top priority in your life. This is as good for your mental health as it is for you physically. Exercise makes stress vanish and enhances your endorphin production, leaving you feeling rejuvenated. Consider a morning trip to the gym, taking a walk on your lunch hour, or doing lunges and squats while on a break or conference call. Be creative about ways to get physical activity into your life.7. Get Enough Sleep -Sleep gives your mind and body the opportunity to heal itself and restore vital energy. Proper sleep also improves mental function and fat loss. You should try to get between 7-8 hours of sleep per day in a consistent sleep pattern. If you have trouble sleeping, avoid eating or exercising 2-3 hours prior to bedtime. Always settle into your sleep by allowing a half hour to quietly read, write, or listen to sleep-inducing audio. 8. Stay Positive & Focused -Allow time each day for positive reinforcement to keep you focused and motivated on manifesting your dreams and goals. This could be reading, writing, or listening to affirmations; reading or listening to inspirational materials; meditating, focusing on a vision board, or viewing a meditation video program, for example. How would you like to manifest your ideal life by tapping the power of YOUR subconscious mind? The Secret to Positive Affirmations

December 1st, 2009

An affirmation is a statement or concept of belief. Affirmations are synonymous with everything we say and think. We are constantly affirming to ourselves through our subconscious thoughts, which are sometimes called mind chatter, mind-scripts, or self-talk.

This subconscious stream of affirmations is vitally important to our life results because they create a foundation on which our conscious actions are built.

Many times our self-talk is the result of experiences from our childhood. Our thought patterns usually reflect self-impressions that we created long ago, as children. They can be positive and work in our favor, or they can be negative and cause huge problems in our lives. Positive affirmations are a way to let go of outdated attitudes and feelings about oneself.

A powerful way to sculpt our self-talk is to create beneficial affirmations and review them on a consistent basis. These positive affirmations are short statements meant to override and replace any negative beliefs held by the subconscious mind.

Using positive affirmations is a conscious effort to stay focused on goals. They remind us to target our thoughts and words on what serves us best. Positive affirmations are a type of prophecy that when imagined with true belief and passion can come true.

When our conscious mind believes our positive affirmations, it feeds them to the subconscious mind. The subconscious may easily consume the belief, or it may reject the belief. Daily repetition of positive affirmations is the most effective way to overcome resistance and realize an improved inner truth.

Once you have firmly established a positive belief in your subconscious self-talk, it can begin to manifest great changes in your conscious reality. The faster you are able to embrace change and alter your beliefs, the faster positive affirmations can work to make tangible improvements in your life.

The format for positive affirmations is very important. They are best constructed as if the desired result has already occurred. For example, “I enjoy sharing my wealth with others”, or “I have boundless energy to exercise each day”. This format enables the mind to begin thinking like a person who has already accomplished those results.

Positive affirmations can be super-charged when accompanied with high levels of emotion and passion. A way to evoke powerful feelings is to involve as many of the senses as possible. Using a program that automatically incorporates images and audio with your affirmations leverages the benefits of the experience.

An image or visual representation that accompanies each of your affirmations sends a strong message to the subconscious about what is truly desired. And using audio that incorporates brainwave entrainment technology puts the mind in the best possible state to receive and hold those messages permanently.

When you want to see change in your life, it’s wise to use the most powerful tools that exist today. Video programs from Get The Dream utilize the most cutting-edge scientific technology to help users maximize their life results. These 20 minute programs allow change to happen on the subconscious level by simply opening and viewing a video file on your computer. Manifest change in 4 different areas of life:
